"Already Enough: Yoga for Every Body, As They Are" SERIES

  • Express Yourself Madison

The #ReclaimBeauty project is excited to be partnering with Nikki Cook Yoga*, a celebrated and talented yoga instructor, to provide a safe space in Madison where we can stop chasing and simply be. Be with our bodies. Be with ourselves. Be in a space where we can leave the mask at the door.

Our goal is to create meaningful and authentic connections that allow us to be ourselves and help to sustain and support healthy choices, goals, and intentions.

Already Enough: Yoga for Every Body, As They Are

  • Express Yourself

Join us for a day devoted to self love and connecting with your body. As many of you know, the #ReclaimBeauty project fights for the right every person has to feel beautiful and worthy EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. And yet, too often, we are bogged down by images in the media, people around us, and most infamously "shoulds" and "supposed tos" we have absorbed from the world we live in. We are made to feel like we have to keep chasing some unattainable and unrealistic image and we find ourselves empty and depleated of any positive energy to keep moving forward.

  • Marcus Point Cinema

"Embrace" by Taryn Brumfitt is back for a 5th Madison, Wisconsin screening on February 8, 2017!

Join us for this screening of "Embrace"-- a powerful documentary about body and self acceptance. This film is amazing. Transformative-- and so we want to make sure more people in the Madison area have the opportunity to see it. (Our first and second screenings are sold out. If we could, we'd put it on every screen in town!) Reserve your tickets now and please spread the word. We need prior reservations in order to secure the screening through Gathr Films.

**Please stay for our post-film discussion!**

Brought to you by la lingerie, llc, Brava Magazine, Head in the Game Fitness, Kinda Kreative, LLC and Larkspur Collaborative Coaching.

Watch the trailer, here.

From HuffPost: "In May 2013, Brumfitt posted a “before and after” photo on Facebook that received more than 3 million “likes” — but this side-by-side wasn’t showing off a flat stomach post-weight loss. The “before” shot was from when she was in a body building contest, and the “after” was post birth. In the video, Brumfitt explains why she thinks the photo got so much attention. “Because heaven forbid a woman can love her body, after,” she said.

Since that image went viral, she has dedicated her time to speaking and writing about body love through her project, Body Image Movement. Now, she’s focusing her efforts on creating the documentary, and has turned to KickStarter to help fund its production."

Research estimates that 3 of 4 people in the United States have body image issues and in 2015 alone, approximately $60 billion was spent on diet and weight loss products. Food is meant to be used as healthy nourishment for our body’s survival, a form of entertainment, celebration or form of social engagement with others, and for some food is considered a hobby, career, or form of artwork. Instead, for many, food has become a "bad habit" or a worrisome chore.

Minimalism: Finding Clarity in a Messy Life

  • DreamBank Madison

Join me in my FREE workshop where we will talk about ways to unclutter the emotional and physical baggage in our lives.

Life is a junk drawer with new baggage getting thrown in everyday. And while many of you are probably thinking, "yeah I know my house could use some decluttering", I dont just mean the physical baggage. Absolutely, living in a culture of consumerism has a dramatic impact on our life but what is tied to all of the "stuff" and has an even bigger impact is the emotional and mental clutter that takes hold in our life. Old fights unresolved, regret, anger, resentment...these insidious figures seep deep into the cracks of our life and even when we think we have cleaned them from the surface, they persist and it is not without more deep work and self-reflection that we can begin to let go of their grip.

This event is FREE and open to the public. Feel free to invite anyone you think would be interested in attending!

Can't wait to see you all there!

#ReclaimBeauty Photoshoot

Join us for the next round of photoshoots for the #ReclaimBeauty project! All are welcome and deserve to have their story told and beauty celebrated!

Attire: Each person interested in attending will wear all black clothing and if they are comfortable, sports bras/crops tops/bandeauxs and/or spandex/briefs/shorts (essentially anything goes and the less clothing the better as long as your genitalia is covered and you feel comfortable). Otherwise, anything you are comfortable wearing will be great as long as you are in all black! Also, some have asked about make-up. Ideally, it will be little or no-make-up but again, I want people to feel comfortable so do what feels good for you!

Photo Session: Individual sessions will be approximately 10 minutes long with you having the time to interact 1-on-1 with the AMAZING Ashley Rostad from Blackwater Studios in a private area on the 3rd floor of the building! She makes you feel completely at ease (trust me) and allows you to feel beyond comfortable while in such a vulnerable state having your photo taken!

Interview: In addition to the 10-minute session, I (Kyira) will meet with each of you to capture a bit of what that experience was like for you. For some, greater reflection comes over time so I always welcome follow up submissions and writing but am excited about the opportunity to engage with you and hear more about why this project speaks to you, how beauty standards have impacted you in your life, and how you can empower people to join us as we #ReclaimBeauty!

Note: All participants must sign a release allowing us to use your photos and quotes for the purposes of the project. However, if there are special circumstances or stipulations, we are HAPPY to work with you!

Sign Up: Click here to sign up for a timeslot and be sure to invite others you think would be interested in standing up to be one of our brave warriors in the fight to #ReclaimBeauty! Any other questions, let me know!

Thank you so much again, for your courage! Looking forward to seeing you/meeting you soon! And to check out some of the brave warriors who have already joined us in the fight to #ReclaimBeauty, click here.

Living with Intentionality? (Dreambank Presentation Series)

  • Dreambank Madison

Join me for my FIRST official community workshop exploring the impact of living such "busy" lives on our overall well-being.

We live in a world where "being busy" is sexy and in order to look successful, you have to get to the point where you feel like are drowning in all you have to do. What would happen if we stopped taking on so much? What would happen if we took some time to get clear on the "why" that motivates us to do what we do and step back and think about the things we really want to be spending time on?

Through a mixture of didactic learning and interactive activities, we will look at your values and passions and see how they align with your current lifestyle as well as think about ways to shift our lifestyle from one that is busy to intentional and fulfilling. I will make a case that if you are doing something that is not necessary to survive or is not helping you thrive, it has no place in our life.

The event is FREE and open to the public BUT there is a CAP @ 30 people so please ONLY say you are going if you can attend so we can get a rough estimate of attendees!

I welcome anyone interested in exploring these ideas with me and hope that as I dive into this dream of mine - public speaking - you will feel comfortable sharing ideas for how to improve and better meet the needs of our community through these workshops including topics, format, style, etc!

Can't wait to see you all in a few weeks!

Rewoven Exhibit

  • 100State

I am grateful to be one of the artists participating in the upcoming Rewoven show at 100state!

Exhibition Information:

In this society feminine, trans, and non-binary individuals are expected to give far more of themselves in all spheres: from the personal to the professional, to the societal and cultural realms. In our own community, the work of feminine, trans, and non-binary artists is often undervalued, underrepresented, marginalized, and under-resourced.
By organizing REWOVEN, we hope to open our space so that different intersections of our friends and families can connect. We would like to open dialogue and educate one another about issues surrounding gender identity, expression, and experience; visibility, censorship, and collective understanding. We are all still learning, and we believe we can learn better…together.

Opening Reception is June 19th from 2-6PM, where the community can come and connect with the artists in a more intimate setting.
